Interview - Vanilla Ace

Today we present the special interview made to a good friend of the #Delicousfamily.

It's no other than the UK legend Vanilla Ace.

10 simple questions to let you know a little more about this hard working Dj/Producer/Label Owner.

1) Would you consider yourself a perfectionist?

-I am and I’m not, sometimes you can’t control every aspect of life and you have to let things be.

2)How would you describe your music?

-My Vanilla ACE sound has changed over the years. When I started it was Deep House and Nu Disco and then moved into G-House and Bass House and now its evolved into Tech House and Club House. Evolution is important as a artists.

3)What's your work day like?

-Usually I wake up, shower and make myself a juice. Then I check emails and plan any social media posts I need to do. Then I’ll settle down to make some tunes on Ableton. I might have a break during the afternoon to go for a ride or a walk. In the evening around 10pm I’ll start to relax with the wife.

4)Did you always want to be an artist?

-When I was a teenager I wanted to be a music producer but I was more of a Hip Hop & R&B fan growing up. Its only when I had been DJing for over 10 years that I wanted to make my own house music tracks for my sets.

5)What gives you the most joy?

-I’ve been DJing for over 20 years now so I love playing for a good crowd and making them have the best night possible with good music. It can be a festival, a birthday, a wedding I love them all.

6)If we could take a look at the artists you are listening to, who

would be on your playlist?

-I have quite eclectic tastes…I like Tom Misch, Kaytranada, Dabeull, Mick Jenkins, Jodeci, Crackazat, Chemical Bros, 90’s rap like KRS-ONE, Wu-Tang Clan, The Dogg Pound etc.

7)Would you have any advice for artists wanting to follow in your footsteps?

-Find your own sound and be amazingly creative on social media!

8)Why do you use that artist name?

-Because when I came up with ‘Vanilla ACE’ I had already been making progressive and electro big room house under my real name that really didn’t do anything so I needed something new and fun and I was inspired by silly names like Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk.

9)Which famous musicians do you admire?

-I grew up listening to the greats and still do so that would be artists like Michael Jackson, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Slave, the Isley Bros, Zapp, Fatback Band, Patrice Rushen, Roy Ayers, Marvin Gaye, Kleeer, Dazz Band...

10)If you could choose any career besides Music what could it be?

-I would be in the Film/TV world writing scripts and directing, maybe even acting.
